It was game 2 of the Phoenix Suns and the San Antonio Spurs, and it might be still too early to tell but believe it or not, but the suns went down for second time in row since the playoffs started. I am the biggest Phoenix Suns fan in my family! I start to scream like crazy when they are making plays after plays and increasing their lead. But when it’s the other way around, my reactions are also the other way around (I often start cursing and hope that I was their coach, which will never happen!). They had such a big lead going into halftime then the spurs really turned it on! My hats are off to the Spurs. I would say that the Spurs really wanted this more than the Suns. I just want the Suns to win it all! GO SUNS GO!

we-just-started-another-unit-in-our-english-class

We just started another unit in our English class. This unit regards writing a critical review on a particular subject such as a movie, book, article, games, etc. I am wondering how I am supposed to write up a review of 1000 to 1500 words. I have never written a review but have read a few. I figured when you read the reviews, they seem small but when you write them, you will find it impossible to write. There are several criteria that go into an excellent review.

1. Summary/ Thesis, should be in the beginning of the essay so that readers have a general background before advancing onto the review itself. Introduction to the topic.

2. Examples/details from the text to back any statements made.

3. Research is needed on the topic beyond the movie/book/article/essay as to familiarize yourself with the content and support your purpose.

4. It has to be interesting. In Romano’s review she is not very interesting which leads the reader to not want to read it and therefore they will neither read the review nor the book.

5. The review has to be original; it needs to be something new, something that has not been used before, or brings up a new point about an old review.

6. The degree to which the other discusses the content, needs to be very in-depth.

7. Does the review pertain directly to your target audience?

8. Author should make his purpose known.

Our class came up these standards with the help of professor Dr. Robert Leston. i have attached the invention work. hope you will enjoy.

I came across this article which predicts the first round outcome of the nab playoffs. There are some outcomes with which I agree with and there are some with which I don’t.

First of all, there is Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks series. I agree with the fact that the Celtics will win the series 4-0. I mean, come on now. They are the best team in the NBA right; not to say that they are my favorite team. They have won more than 60 games which they have not been able to do for a very long time. It will be interesting to see how far they go into the playoffs.

Next there is the Detroit Pistons and the Philadelphia 76ers series. I don’t think that the Pistons will be able to win the series 4-0. The 7ers have been playing exceptionally well without A.I (Allen Iverson). I would say that the series would go at least to 6 games and then the pistons win it 4-2.

Then there is the Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors series. I think if the Magics are able play their style of the basketball then they would be able to win the series 4-2. The Magics may have won the season series 2-1 but if Jose Calderon of the Raptors plays the way he has been playing for last 10 games of the season, then the Raptors might have a chance at winning the series.

The last series of the eastern conference is the Cleveland Cavaliers and Washington Wizards series. This one would be an interesting one since Gilbert Arenas, a.k.a. agent zero, is back. I am interested in knowing how far the Wizards can go. Even though they both won twice during the regular season, I would go for the Cavs. This is also their third straight time in the first round of the playoffs. I would want the Cavs to win the first round series with 4-3.

Now let us get to the western conference. This year’s race to the playoffs for the western teams was very close. We have not seen such competitiveness for many years.

First up is the Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets series. The article predicts it will probably be a 4-1 ending but I think the Nuggets won’t even win a single game unless A.I and Carmelo Anthony. The way the trio (Gasol, Odom, and Kobe) is playing, I don’t think they are stoppable.

Second up, is the New Orleans Hornets and the Dallas Mavericks series. I really hope the Mavs pull it off with the Hornets. I don’t think that Jason Kidd can handle Chris Paul’s speed, but the way Dirk has been playing ever since his return from the injury, he is sure to take the series from the Hornets. I would agree with the article and go with the Mavs winning it 4-2.

The next match up is between the Utah Jazz and the Houston Rockets. I don’t know how the Rockets will do without Yao’s presence. They did go on a 22 game winning spree which gives hope as I vote for the Rockets to win it 4-3 unlike the article predicts the Jazz winning it 4-2.

I think this is going to be by the far the best series which between the Phoenix Suns and the San Antonio Spurs. I totally disagree with the article on the fact that Spurs winning over Suns with 4-3. I believe the Suns will blow the Spurs with 4-2. I mean, just look at the Suns. They owned the Spurs during regular season by 3 to 1. Amare just took off to the next level of his game after the addition of Shaq, a.k.a. the Big Cactus, from the Heat, sending Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks to Miami. Bottom line, the Suns are winning it all, including defeating the Celtics in the finals to get the Championship ring which they had been longing for so long.

Even the reviews written by A.O.Scott and Christopher Orr are on two different movies they both share common things in their writings of reviews.

Key Features of both reviews are:

they both have a strong definitive opinion.

the both were able to explain their opinion thoroughly.

the two articles have a summary of the subject.

they had in depth analysis!

thinking about writing a review in the similar format of Mr. Scott and Christopher is not going to be an easy task. a lot of practice will be required and a lot revision along with that. the basic features of their reviews will be used to write my own review of the topic which i dont know yet!”(still undecided) “

There is one common problem with four expert solutions.

Dermatologists: Cold weather and low humidity make dry skin even worse in the winter. After taking a quick shower or bath, pat your dry and immediately moisturize with a lotion containing, cyclomethicone, collagen, or Shea butter, which will help seal in the product. Reapply at night.

Cosmetic dermatologists: avoid hot showers and baths, which can exacerbate the problem. Replace drying soaps with a moisturizing liquid cleanser and gently rub it in with a washcloth or loofah. Try a humidifier in your bedroom to add moisture to the sir and avoid rough fabrics that can scratch the skin, like wool.

Nutritionist: Diet is definitely part of the dry-skin equation. You want to stay hydrated, so women should aim for 72 ounces of fluid a day (from water and other beverages or water-based foods); men need 100 ounces. Watch your caffeine and alcohol intake, as both tend to be diuretics. Getting enough fats is also important, so make sure to eat olive oil, nuts, seeds and fish.

Allergists: if your dry skin is itchy and looks and feel worse on the side of your elbows, the back of your neck or knees, or your cheeks or hands, you may actually have eczema. See all the allergist or dermatologist, as you may need topical steroids to control the rash. You may also have allergy to lotions, foods, or other irritants.

According to the statistics show in the reader’s digest magazine, approximately 81 million Americans dealt with dry skin!

This week, I have tons of work from the classes i am attending this semester. I have a project due on the 22nd of April which assigns me to make brochures. I have to write up a separate paper concerning the project. In the same class, I have two other long papers (each 3-4 pages long) due. If that’s not enough of work, I have to work on another project from theology class where a group of 5, including myself, have to crate a power point presentation of about 15 slides. The presentation has to be about comparing two Asian country’s constitution. Constitution? And too on only 15 slides? Impossible!  Constitution is really a broad topic to squeeze into only 15 slides. That’s insane! Then for the English writing composition class, I have read two online reviews since I will be soon writing review myself about some movie (still undecided on which movie to criticize). The two reviews, The Elder Scrolls Morrowind by Jonah Jackson and Children Need to Play, Not Compete by Jessica Starsky: An Evaluation” by Christine Romano, can be found at wee write. Last but not least, I have a bio exam next Tuesday, which will cover over 7 chapters. It is just going crazy as far as I can see. I will update on how everything goes.

Today, two out of the three classes I attend are cancelled. This sucks. I rushed to get to class and when I reached there I saw the notice on the door saying “DNY class cancelled.” I rode my rode so fast that I think I tweaked one of my leg bones. I could not catch my breath. I was huffing and puffing. Then I go on to my hang out place aka THE WRITING CENTER. I open my saint johns mail account and find that my English professor has also cancelled the class. Now I had to wait from 7:45am-3:00pm. This sucks. The funny thing is that both of my professor are absent due sickness. I think it would be crazier if they were both out with the same sickness.

In a way, this gives time be away from home and get a lot of my school work done. Since the semester is coming to an end, all the professors are trying to finish their work also.

Now anyone wanting to leave a comment, think about how you would have acted and what would you have done.

We have just finished watching THERE WILL BE BLOOD and as assigned by our professor, we have to write our critique on the end of the movie. The movie is basically about a man named Danielle wanting to take over the oil industry. He buys all the land that produces oil. He comes so obsessed with the power of oil industry, that he killed anyone who would not cooperate with him and stand in his way.

The end of the movie just leaves us hanging by the fact that it doesn’t wrap up the movie as a typical movie would. The movie ends when Danielle kills a guy from the church. It leaves us wondering what is going to happen next. It reveals a big fact at the end which we never knew all along the movie. The information about the church boy’s twin was revealed.

The Movie Review ‘There Will Be Blood’

By

For my part, I have to append the qualifier “flawed” to that verdict. Anderson’s film is indeed an extraordinary one, yet it is one that runs aground in its final act and, especially, its final scene. A tale that has taken its time suddenly becomes rushed; crucial moral and psychological developments are abruptly elided; a director’s careful hand throws caution to the winds; and a masterful performance descends into frothing caricature.”
